"What should I feed Cooper for lunch today?" I thought.
"Oh...He is over 1..I can give him a peanut butter sandwich."
I didn't think much of it...I was able to give my other two kids peanut butter with no problem and they loved it!
And Cooper did too! He ate it all! Well 1/2 a sandwich.
And then it was nap time like usual. I gave him his milk and put him to bed. Well... he kept crying and then screaming...which is not normal for him. So went to check on him and he had a rash on his face. So I immediately thought, "Oh NO...it was the peanut butter sandwich." So I hurried and googled about it and it said that the first reaction is always the smallest and he will get hives and a rash. Yes he did! He started to get little white hives all over his body. It looked like a ton of mosquito's had a field day all over his body. Probably like 30 of them all over. And I could tell they itched or hurt him. He wasn't happy. I called my doctor and they said to bring him in. I had my doctors appointment first so my friend, Michelle took him to my friend's Michaela's house to have her look at him and give him some Benadryl. Her daughter is VERY allergic to nuts. So she was a great resource. She knew exactly how much benadryl to give him. I had no idea. Within 1/2hr the hives were starting to look better.
We headed to the doctors office. He fell asleep on the way and slept in my arms while we waited...which is totally NOT Cooper. He never will sleep in your arms. I am sure the benadryl helped. The doctor looked at him and said NO MORE PEANUT BUTTER or NUTS until age 5 and then we could try to see how he does. She said the Pediatrics Association is actually advising that all children wait until age 5 for any nuts. WHAT...NO peanut butter sandwiches until age 5! Kids will be missing out! They love them! She said he probably isn't bad enough that we have to read all the labels for products processed in the same plant, etc...so I am so happy about that. We just have to be careful not to give him nuts at all. And we were told to carry benadryl with us where ever we go. So we do now. Fun times!
Cooper found a peanut M&M and was sucking on it, I took it out before he chewed the nut, and he was fine. I am glad he isn't severely allergic. It was a scary day, a few tears from Mom, since I was the one who gave him the sandwich. I felt so bad. I don't like seeing my baby in so much pain and sadness.
